Walmart has faced several problems in the past such as the way they treat their employees, their workplace conditions, and many other ethical issues. The company however has made several changes within their organization to make positive changes and try and correct these issues.
Wal-Mart’s poor labor practice consists of avoiding non-unionizing of all employees, low wages, expensive benefit packages, and sexual discrimination. They insist on keeping full time employees to minimum to avoid handing out benefit packages and yet they are making employees work full time hours.
Walmart adheres to a number of guiding principles in its code of ethics that include abiding by the law, reporting information about company practices honestly, acting in a manner that exhibits integrity and consulting a manager or the Walmart Global Ethics Office about any issues that arise with the question of ethics.
Walmart publishes several global policies, which are designed to give associates guidance that is the same for all locations. This Statement of Ethics is an example of a global policy. In addition, each business unit Walmart operates is expected to have a complete set of policies providing guidance to associates for the country in which they are working.
Even as we change to meet the needs of our customers, Walmart will stay true to the values, beliefs and behaviors that have guided us over the last 50 years. Regardless of where each of us works in our global company, this Statement of Ethics is the guide to exemplifying integrity as a Walmart associate.
